Manuscript Critique

Are you at a loss for where to go next? Your manuscript is complete, you’ve made revisions to the obvious troubles of any early draft. Now you’re wondering have all the big holes been filled. Are the characters fully developed and does consistency run throughout the novel or nonfiction piece? Or perhaps you’re halfway through your manuscript and feel you’ve gotten off course. A partial critique may be just the thing you need to refocus. Get suggestions on the focus, development, organization, and clarity.

Our team will help put you back on the right track.

Here’s what we DO cover in a manuscript critique:

1. Character Development

2. Point of View

3. Dialogue

4. Voice

5. Plot and Structure

6. Pacing and Tension

7. Setting

8. Overall Impression

What we DON’T cover in our critique:

1. Rewrite or revise for you. We will provide an example of how to revise on your own.

2. Correct grammar, mechanics and spelling. This requires our copyeditor or proofreader. However, a reviewer will point out any patterns of surface-level error that may pose a significant problem for you.

3. Check and correct for style (e.g., Chicago Manual of Style or AP style). This requires our copyeditor or proofreader.

4. Provide any fact-checking.

5. Provide answers or advice on legal issues.

What to expect: You’ll receive an editors letter with comments and suggestions on each of the elements above.
